Yr10 Mock Interviews

On Thursday August 8, Year 10 students participated in a series of ‘mock’ interviews, allowing them to be immersed in the process of applying for a job. Many of the students stepped up to the challenge that was presented to them, by both preparing a tailored résumé (a few weeks prior, they had the opportunity to fully understand what is needed for a proper résumé by attending a résumé, workshop run by Career Development Coordinator Mr. Scott Westray), as well as dressing professionally for this opportunity. For many of our students, this was the first time they would have had the opportunity to go through an interview process, and so the feedback they received about their physical and professional presentation, will allow them to prepare more effectively for the next time they have a job interview for real. For others who have had an interview before, this was a chance to refine & improve the skills they already possess. In either situation, this opportunity is one that allows our students to begin to understand one of the realities of the world outside the school gates, and prepare as well as they can for it.

YEAR 12 Chemistry Workshop at La Trobe University

On Thursday August 1 2019, students in Year 12 Chemistry at Meadow Fair Campus partook in an enlightening excursion to La Trobe University’s molecular sciences facilities to further grasp the knowledge surrounding analysis of organic compounds through scientific instrumental measures such as spectroscopy and chromatography.

Particularly students were given a wonderful opportunity to synthesise organic molecules, analyse them using multi-million dollar instruments such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometers in conjunction with other brilliant techniques such as mass spectrometry (MS) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The Year 12 Chemistry students were given advanced insights into the theory surrounding data analysis of both spectroscopy and chromatography by their mentors at the La Trobe University laboratory.

In completion the Year 12 students really enjoyed and benefitted from the experience and would like to express our most sincere gratitude to La Trobe University and their mentors for a spectacular experience that will not be forgotten. We also thank and appreciate Mr Addo for his relentless effort in organising and facilitating this knowledgeable experience.
